Audio file
Koh Chang, Thailand
This arboreal species is found in tropical forests across Asia including the Indian Subcontinent. It is a sedentary species and rarely moves away from its territory. The female pigeon above was photographed on Koh Chang, Thailand. Notice how well camouflaged she is against a verdant background.
Feeding
Like other green pigeons its diet consists mainly of small fruits and seeds, which it obtains by foraging in the trees often in pairs or small flocks.
Breeding
The nest is a typical dove and pigeon structure consisting of a flimsy platform of a few twigs built amongst tree branches. Both parents incubate the two white eggs and rear the chicks.
