African pipits are a common resident in East and southern Africa.

Habitat

African pipits thrive in a variety of habitats from semi arid scrub and sparse woodland to moist grassland. They are fairly conspicuous and will often perch on bushes or fences. When disturbed, they may employ tali-flicking or bobbing and make short runs.

Feeding

They are terrestrial foragers eating insects, termites and seeds.

Breeding

Nests are constructed on the ground and made dry grass and rootlets.  Up to five eggs are incubated mainly by the female for up to 15 days before hatching. Both parents feed the young.
